A Canadian teenager was shot dead over the weekend after using the tracking app of a cellphone to find his lost smartphone

According to the police in the town of London, in the Canadian state of Ontario, Jeremy Cook (18) forgot his smartphone in a taxi and used a tracking app to trace the phone to a parking lot behind a shopping centre in the north of the town.

Police say the exact details of the case are still being investigated, but at about 5 am on Sunday morning Jeremy and a relative arrived at the parking lot and found three men in a car there.

“A discussion occurred about the phone,” a police reports states. “The vehicle started to drive away so the victim partially climbed onto and held the driver’s door.” Shots were fired and Jeremy was hit a number of times. He died at the scene.

The police say they took possession of the lost smartphone. The deserted vehicle was also found. It had crashed through a fence and hit a telephone pole.

The police are searching for three men aged between 18 and 21.
