There are some BIG changes coming to Isidingo

06 April 2017

One of SA's fave soapie is getting a major revamp!

New cast members, a "super-sized" storyline and a modern re-interpretation of the opening sequence are just a few of the changes that fans can look forward to, in a bid to "better reflect our South African reality in 2017".

“The show needs to represent the new SABC3 brand, while still maintaining it’s thrilling and captivating storylines,” confirms executive producer, Pumla Hopa.

So what does this mean for the show's beloved cast of characters?

Here's a sneak peek: Lincoln who was thrown into jail for killing his wife a year ago, sets up his escape involving Nina and a corrupt prison warden.

Kgothalo is heartbroken by Tyson’s divorce request, for which she blames Angie. She takes out her anger on Angie and makes a decision which causes Angie to consider suicide.

But the big story which is driving the re-imagined Isidingo is the merging of Sibeko Gold and Haines International. Nikiwe Sibeko asks Barker Haines to consider a union. Which one will dominate?

Adding more fuel to the already raging fire is the shift in ownership of The Rec, the Deep’s resident restaurant-bar which was once owned by S’khumbuso. Having lost everything, S’khumbuso’s parents are in huge debt and now the banks have come to collect and the Rec has gone up for auction.

Will S’khu be able to wrestle ownership back? If not, who will be the new owner?

The last slice of intrigue comes in the form of the live burial of Sechaba, a quintessential character in the soap.

This storyline is laced with racism undertones and deals with land ownership issues, a topical subject in our country at the moment, all of which will begin on Freedom Day.

Setting the scene, Sechaba visits his father’s grave at Horizon Deep where he’s approached and beaten up by two guys.

Entering the socially sensitive scene is Gatanga Samuel ‘Muti Man’ Masilo (played by Amos Ketlele), a new face to Isidingo and one of the show’s many new arrivals.

Pulling Sechaba out is Gatanga’s purpose but the entire experience leaves him completely rattled, making way for his character to integrate into the  drama.

To coincide with the SABC3 re-launch and to echo the new vision of the show, producers have also revitalised the opening credits.

There will be so much more to reveal in the coming weeks and months ahead, so stay tuned!
