"When we are both 100-years-old, we will come back again, OK?"

Cao Yuehua and Wang Devi, both 98 years old, have been married for 70 years and wanted to do something special to mark the occasion.

So with the help of their four children, the couple, from Southwest China, returned to Chongqing's Northern Hot Springs Park, where they first got married.

'We want to help them to commemorate their love'

Recreated their wedding photo was a way for the couple to commemorate their love.

“They have been together for so long, going through the war, the political turmoil and diseases, and can still stay with each other and love each other. We want to help them to commemorate their love,” said the couple’s youngest son, 60-year-old Cao Pangpei.

Originally from Shanghai, the couple fled to Chongqing after World War II broke out. Cao's work as a translator meant the couple were separated for much of the war but they managed to keep the flame alive with love poems.

“They can barely remember many things in their life, but they can recite the love poems they wrote to each other during the wartime.”

And the secret to their long-lasting union?

"Couples need to care for each other," said Cao.

"I think of her at any time, and so does she."

Wang Devi agrees.
