We all know South Africa is one of the most beautiful places on earth – but seeing it from space is out of this world.

Astronaut Tim Peake shared this incredible photo from the International Space Station (ISS). The Briton has been living and working on the ISS for the past six months, starting from December, 2015. The astronaut has already become a social media star for sharing beautiful images like these on Facebook and Twitter, captioning many of them with his own dry sense of humour.

He captioned the view of SA: “Lovely pass-by South Africa yesterday - still in awe of Eddie Izzard running 27 marathons across that stretch of land! #southafrica #marathon.” Tim, who is also a keen cross-country runner, was referring to the British comedian challenge to himself to run 27 marathons in 27 days, eventually crossing the finish line in Pretoria last month.

I was looking for Antarctica - hard to spot from our orbit. Settled for a moonset instead. #moon
