A fascinating experiment has shed light on the strikingly different perceptions of beauty across the globe.

Female graphic designers from 18 countries, including South Africa, took part in the viral experiment conducted by Superdrug Online Doctors.

The designers were each given one single photo of a woman and asked to “Photoshop and retouch this woman to make her more attractive to the citizens of your country.”

The end results are interesting to say the least. Most of the countries appear to favour curvier bodies and even retained the model's original figure. But the designers from China and Italy heavily Photoshopped the original photo, revealing shocking beauty standards.
