In 2013 he signed on as a judge for the US version of TV talent show The Voice, replacing CeeLo Green in the fourth season.

Usher signed up to The Voice so people could see a new side to him.

The American singer has dominated the music charts since he first burst on to the scene in 1994 with his self-titled debut album. He opted out of the fifth series but returned this year for the sixth, alongside judges Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Shakira.

‘The more I know about life, the more I know about people, the greater the person I am’

"Part of the reason why I did The Voice was so people would get a chance to see a different perception of me... The more I know about life, the more I know about people, the greater the person I am, the more understanding I have about how to make music and how to do things that will grow us as people," Usher explained to Fault magazine.

Usher's eighth studio album UR was due for a September release, but the star recently revealed the date has been pushed back.

He's also just finished shooting new movie Hands of Stone, where he plays famous boxer Sugar Ray Leonard. Robert De Niro co-stars in the flick centred on boxer Roberto Durán and his trainer Ray Arcel.

"The film revolves around a very compelling story in history. A lot of people want to know what happened with Roberto Durán and Sugar Ray Leonard during that infamous fight. Why did he quit? Why did he walk out of the ring? No one knows the truth. We address all of that. It’s going to be a great piece of work, because of everyone involved in telling this really significant part of boxing history," Usher smiled.
