The gunman believed to have shot dead two WDBJ TV journalists during a live feed has died.

The gunman believed to have shot dead two WDBJ TV journalists during a live interview was seriously "disturbed in some way," Franklin County Sheriff Bill Overton said, adding "it would appear things were spiraling out of control."

The gunman, identified as Vester Lee Flanagan II also known as Bryce Williams, was believed to be a disgruntled former employee of the TV station. He shot himself after a police pursuit and was taken to hospital where he later died. This follows the shooting of journalist Alison Parker (24) and her cameraman Adam Ward (27) at a shopping centre in Virginia yesterday morning. The woman Alison was interviewing, Vicki Gardner, head of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce, is currently in a stable condition.
Before he shot himself, the gunman took to social media to explain his motives. His Twitter rant revealed that he had been unhappy over racial tensions at work. This was soon followed by two videos that showed him carrying out the attack on the unsuspecting journalists.
His Twitter account was soon suspended.
As tributes flow in, it has been revealed that Adam’s fiancée, a fellow producer at WDBJ, watched him die on air. “It was her last day. She was moving on to a station in Charlotte,” Station Manager Jeffrey A. Marks told CNN, adding that they were planning to hold a celebration in her honour. Adam was reportedly planning to follow her soon.
