The businessman spent millions on two 60th birthday bashes

A birthday cake costing R1 million, the finest whisky and cognac, a R330 000 birthday gift, a reality TV star in charge of the food, famous guests and 10 000 underprivileged kids invited to share in day two of the fun.

No doubt about it, the eagerly awaited bash Durban businessman Vivian Reddy threw to celebrate his 60th birthday and the 35th anniversary of his company didn’t disappoint.

The owner of the Edison Power Group forked out R10 million for the weekend festivities to ensure this was a jol to remember – and that’s exactly what he got.

The fun kicked off with a private party for 200 of his closest friends and relatives at the palatial Umhlanga home in KwaZulu-Natal Vivian shares with his actress-presenter wife, Sorisha Naidoo, and their two young children, son Saihil (4) and daughter Kalina (2) – and we were lucky enough to get a nod to the invitation-only affair.

Vivian himself is at the door, warmly greeting guests and ushering them into the large garden. Among the famous faces are first lady Thobeka Madiba-Zuma, Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini, public enterprises minister Malusi Gigaba and justice minister Jeff Radebe.

Soulful jazz fills the air, fairy lights adorn every tree and candles light up the cocktail tables and swimming pool. Ice sculptures and huge flower arrangements add to the décor.
