The slain student's loved ones have gathered at the NG Kerk in Fishhoek to say farewell to the "loving, intelligent" student.

Hannah Cornelius memorial service will be broadcast live on Facebook on Friday from 11 am onwards from the NG Kerk in Fish Hoek. The slain student's loved ones gathered at the church in Cape Town's Southern Suburbs to say farewell to the "loving, intelligent" student. The body of the 21-year-old, from Scarborough near Simonstown, was found on a farm outside Stellenbosch, on Saturday morning after she was stabbed and raped. She and a friend Cheslin Marsh were allegedly chatting in Cheslin’s blue and white VW Golf on Bird Street when they were attacked and kidnapped.

Cheslin managed to get away and get help from a couple Bernardino Heights, who at first thought he was an intruder, reports Times Live.

Police were able to find him there and took him to hospital. Four men are being held in connection with Hannah’s murder and the attack on Cheslin.

Many gathered at Irene residence on Thursday at Stellenbosh University where Hannah lived and silently marched to a block of flats at the corner of Bird Street and Jan Cilliers Road in Stellenbosch where Hannah and her friend were hijacked.

Adriaan Jordaan, one of Hannah' student friends, who saw her every day told News24 that he had made peace with her death.

"She attracted people," said Adriaan. "She didn’t even have to say something - if she walked into a room, your mood settled and you just calmed down."

On Friday, the Cornelius family released a statement to YOU.

"Something our family has learnt this week is that hard times reveal true friends. With the tragic passing of our beloved Hannah, we have come to know how many friends we have in the world. We have experienced true human kindness, love and compassion, often even from strangers.

In this time, we wish to focus on the positive. We want to remember Hannah for all the beautiful qualities she possessed: kindness, love, light, humility, gentleness, intelligence and creativity. We hope this will remain her legacy. We hold on to the joy she brought to everyone in her life. Those who knew her will attest to this.

The absolute outpouring of love our family has received from all over the world in this difficult time is testimony of the wonderful person our Hannah was. We will forever be grateful for the support and to the kindhearted nature of people. That is something that can never be taken away from us".
