He also added that he wanted to see the lions up close and shake hands with one of them.

We all do crazy things we wouldn't normally do when we have had a little too much to drink – but this man sure takes the cake!

Mukesh Kumar  (35) from the Sikar district in Rajasthan, India, recently had one too many drinks before he decided that he would take a trip to the Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad. There, in his drunken state, Mukesh climbed into the lion enclosure.

In the footage he can be seen extending his hand to one of the lions as it approaches him. As a second lion approaches, he's reportedly was singing, ‘Please come to me my darling...”

People standing on the edge of the enclosure can be heard screaming for someone to come and rescue the drunken man. Zoo workers arrived on the scene and 15 minutes after he first made his way into the lion enclosure, he was rescued.

Park Curator Shivaji Dogra told Express UK, “The lioness was inside the enclosure but the person was rescued unhurt by its keeper, R Papaiah.

“After preliminary inquiry it was found that Mukesh was in an inebriated state and had jumped inside the enclosure to go near the lion. He's been handed over to Bahadurpura police.”

Mukesh spent the night in jail and was charged under various sections of India's Wildlife Protection Act.

He later told Express UK that he approached the lions because he was under the influence of alcohol.

“We had beers outside the zoo. I don’t know where they bought it. Please forgive me,” he said.

Zookeepers said he's lucky to have survived, since his little adventure into the enclosure happened to be just before feeding time.
