A woman in India was hit head-on by a train – and lived to tell the tale.

Pratiksha Natekar (19) later told local media she was crossing the railway lines on foot on her way home from work. She says she was wearing her earphones and was on a phone call with a friend, causing her to not hear the oncoming train.

Passengers waiting on the platform saw what was happening and screamed for her attention, but everything happened so fast that she panicked and ran first towards the platform, and then back across the train tracks. But it was too late. The oncoming train crashed into her.

Paramedics were swift to respond and took Pratiksha to hospital. She was released later the same day having sustained only minor injuries to her eye and left hand.

After the accident, Pratiksha spoke to NDTV and said, “I would appeal to everyone to not plug in earphones while using the railways. Don’t use headphones while boarding a train or waiting for a train.

“In fact, it’s best to use a footbridge to cross tracks,” she added.
