"I feel like you'll really regret saying this when you're sober."

Mary Caldarella decided to text her ex-boyfriend using the lyrics from Adele's new song Hello. Clearly unfamiliar with the power of Adele, the ex, known only as Matt, totally fell for it, resulting in an interesting exchange. “I just wanted to see how he would respond,” Mary told Cosmo. A student from Atlanta, she had started the conversation with a familiar "Hello from the outside".

“Hey you,” responds an unsuspecting Matt. Thinking she wanted them to reunite, an unsuspecting Matt plays into Mary's prank.
Mary sticks to character. She responds using only lyrics from Adele's song, confusing the life out of Matt since the "last time I asked if we could go on a date... you told me to go f*** myself."

Then poor Matt came to the only logical explanation: Mary must have been drunk.

"I feel like you'll really regret saying this when you're sober," he texts back.

Mary took screenshots of the conversation and shared them on Twitter with the caption “When the ex falls for Adele lyrics” on Twitter. The post went viral and favourited more than 20 000 times and retweeted over 14,000 times.

“He definitely wasn’t happy about [the tweet].”

Other internet users have blasted Mary's prank as being cruel.

"I'm sorry, but am I the only one who thinks it isn't cool to toy with someone's feelings like that for a laugh?" commented a user known as Cherlyn.
