This weekend's one for the geeks - check out British funnymen Simon Pegg and best friend Nick Frost in an out-of-this-world comedy on Friday, and devilishly handsome Chris Pine in Star Trek Into Darkness on Sunday. For everyone else, there's a bit of action to fill up your TV-schedule.

Friday 9 May

e.tv 8.30 pm

If you like alien movies and good comedy, this one’s for you. British funnymen Simon Pegg and best friend Nick Frost team up as comic-book geeks travelling across the US who come across an alien outside Area 51. Seth Rogen provides the voice of alien Paul.

Saturday 10 May

Tower Heist

SABC1 8 pm

Swindled out of their life savings and with nothing left to lose, hotel employee Ben Stiller and his colleagues plan the ultimate revenge scheme – they’re going to steal everything from the financial wizard who robbed them blind.

The Next Karate Kid

e.tv 8 pm

Daniel has moved on and in his place is the troubled Julie, played by Hilary Swank (20 years ago!). The wise martial arts master Mr Miyagi takes the troubled teen under his wing.

Sunday 11 May

Star Trek Into Darkness

M-Net 8.05 pm

Captain Kirk’s a lot handsomer than in the original TV series, and this movie is all action-packed blockbuster rather than a homage to Star Trek. The crew of the Enterprise find themselves up against an intergalactic terrorist played to perfection by Benedict Cumberbatch, who makes his power-hungry character Khan seem like the most badass villain we’ve seen for some time.
