Mom, M-Net 6 pm A mother-daughter sitcom with a twist. Super cute Anna Faris plays Christy, a recovering alcoholic and single mom who’s trying to restart her life. Christy and her mom, Bonnie (the fantastic Allison Janney of West Wing fame), do a daughter-mother exercise. In tonight’s episode they go to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting together and try to get through the night without killing each other or getting drunk.    SATURDAY

Suits, M-Net 7.30 pm

We love us a bit of drama. Don’t miss tonight’s episode because Mike’s going to do something very stupid. Let’s just say he uses his relationship with Rachel to make someone do something – and that it can only end badly.

Alice in Wonderland, SABC3 7.30 pm

A visual feast and a good choice if you’re in the mood for something quirky – Johnny Depp and his director buddy Tim Burton take on the tale of Alice in Wonderland. A now-teenaged Alice returns to Wonderland to fulfil her destiny: slay the Jabberwocky and free Wonderland’s citizens. We’d watch it just to see Helena Bonham-Carter as the Red Queen. The film also stars the ethereal Mia Wasikowska.   SUNDAY

Halloween Special, The Food Network 2.45 pm to 9 pm

It may be an American thing but our kids seem to like the idea of Halloween too. If you’re looking for some cool food ideas get them from these cooking shows – Chopped, Barefoot Contessa, Good Eats, Amazing Wedding Cakes, Guy’s Big Bite and Staten Island Cakes.

Mr Selfridge, BBC Entertainment 9pm

This period drama set in 1909 London follows eccentric US businessman Harry Gordon Selfridge’s plans to open the world’s finest department store. In this episode the flamboyant Harry shocks his staff when he decides to open a cosmetics and perfume counter on the ground floor. If that’s not enough for one day, Agnes’s drunk and abusive dad punches her in the face.
