Will Smith admits he and wife Jada Pinkett Smith have “struggled” with their marriage.

The couple have been married since 1997, which is an outstanding feat in Hollywood terms. However, the 46-year-old says it hasn’t all been smooth sailing as being married to another actor comes with its own set of unique challenges.

“Jada and I have struggled with that a little bit,” he admitted to Us Weekly of finding that elusive work-life balance. “The problem is one person is in work mode while the other person is in chill mode. Then it's like you're both trying to come up."

'At some point one or the other is going to have to suffer'

While Will is currently heating up the big screen with Margot Robbie in Focus, Jada (43) is starring as Fish Mooney in the Batman spin-off TV series Gotham. And with their work often forcing them to spend significant amounts of time apart, Will says the key to coping with the pressure on their relationship is commitment.

"It is really something that will happen in time. And you'll realise that you're either really committed to having a relationship, or you're really committed to coming up. At some point one or the other is going to have to suffer,” he explained.

Despite past rumours of marital strife – including a reported affair with co-star Margot during filming in late 2013, which both parties strenuously denied – the couple, who have three children between them, put on a PDA-heavy front during the premiere of Focus in Hollywood on Tuesday. They happily kissed and cuddled as the cameras snapped away, with an onlooker telling the publication they "complemented each other well".

Meanwhile, Will once again assured that the cheating rumours were false, telling Us Weekly, “No fishing off the company pier is the first rule.”
