Yummy hamburgers

Serves 4-6

1 kg mince

5 ml (1 t) salt

Freshly ground black pepper to taste

5 ml ground cumin

3 ml ground coriander

15 ml (1 T) Worcester sauce

1 small onion, grated

1 egg, whisked

60 ml braai marinade

6 soft sesame seed bread rolls

30 ml soft butter or margarine

6 cheese slices

About 60 ml mayonnaise and tomato sauce, mixed half and half

About 8 gherkins, sliced

2 ripe tomatoes, sliced

About 60 ml (1/4 c) prepared mustard


Mix the mince, salt, pepper, cumin, coriander, Worcester sauce, onion and egg in a large mixing bowl until well blended.

Divide the mince mixture into uniform portions and shape them into hamburgers.

Chill for at least 1 hour or preferably overnight.

Halve the bread rolls and spread the bottom halves with butter or margarine.

Cook the hamburgers over hot coals or in a griddle pan for 10-15 minutes or until done, occasionally brushing them with the braai marinade.

Put a hamburger on each buttered bread roll half and top with a slice of cheese.

Put another hamburger on top of the cheese and spoon a little of the mayonnaise mixture on top.

Arrange the sliced gherkins and tomato slices on top and add a little mustard.

Top with a lettuce leaf and cover with the other bread roll half.

Serve with potato chips.
