Zooey Deschanel was mistakenly accused of being the Boston bomber following a TV subtitling error.

The New Girl actress' name appeared on Fox network affiliate KDFW's coverage of the manhunt for the second bombing suspect following the terrible attack at the Boston Marathon earlier this month – but the brunette beauty appeared to see the funny side of the mistake.

The message displayed read, ". . . marathon bombing; he is 19-year-old Zooey Deschanel."

But after learning of the blunder, the 33-year-old star wrote on Twitter: "Whoa! Epic closed captioning FAIL! (sic)"

Following the mistake, Today Caption Solutions apologised and said the employee responsible "deeply regrets" the error.
