Tempura chilli cheese hot dog with fresh greens and chimichurri sauce

Dipped in a light batter and deep-fried, these crispy tempura chilli cheese hot dogs are served with fresh greens and chimichurri sauce, creating a simple #JustDelicious addition to your picnic basket.


Tempura chili cheese hot dog

380g Eskort Gourmet American Chilli Cheese Hot Dog

oil for deep frying

250ml (1c) flour

375ml (1½c) soda water, chilled

5ml (1t) salt

15ml (1T) cornflour

Fresh greens

200g tenderstem broccoli

200g French beans


250ml (1c) fresh parsley, finely chopped

15 ml (1T) fresh oregano, finely chopped

2 garlic cloves, finely chopped

1 shallot, chopped

2,5ml (½t) chilli chopped

45ml (3T) olive oil

10ml (2t) red wine vinegar

zest and juice of 1 lemon


Tempura Chili Cheese Hot Dog

  • Preheat a pot of oil over high heat.
  • Combine the flour, cornflour, and soda water and salt in a small mixing bowl and whisk well to remove any lumps.
  • Refrigerate the batter for 10 minutes.
  • Coat the hot dogs with flour then dip them into the batter.
  • Deep-fry the hot dogs in the oil for 5 minutes until crispy.

Chimichurri sauce

  • Combine all the ingredients in a food processor and blend well.
  • Serve with the hot dogs with the sauce. Store any leftover sauce in the fridge in an airtight container.
