We fell in love with them after watching their fairy tale wedding - now get to know the Duke and Duchess of Sussex

You watched the royal red-head and his glamorous Hollywood star say "I do", but you might not be clued-up on all things Harry and Meghan. Here’s a quick look at the loved-up pair who stole our collective hearts.

What’s in a name

Harry’s name is actually Henry – or Prince Henry Charles Albert David if you want the full works. Harry is what his mom and dad started calling him when he was a baby. It stuck – and suits him a lot better than Henry. Meghan’s full name is Rachel Meghan Markle but she switched it up when she started out as an actress.

Prince Harry, who’s fifth in line to the throne, is likely to be bestowed with a dukedom by the queen after his wedding (Sussex is available). So he’s likely to become His Royal Highness the Duke of Sussex and the former Suits star will be Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex.

Timeline of love

Harry and Meghan met on a blind date early in 2016, hit it off and started dating. Apparently it was love at first sight and they planned their second date almost immediately.

It turns out neither knew much about the other before their first encounter. Harry had never heard of Suits and Meghan knew precious little about the British royal family.

In November 2016 Harry released a statement asking the media to go easy on Meghan, who was having her every move dogged by the paparazzi.

The pair made their first official public appearance as a couple at the Invictus Games in Toronto in September 2017 – and two months later Kensington Palace announced the engagement of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle. Their wedding date was announced in December, and the world rejoiced.

Ring of love

Harry designed the engagement ring he presented to his beautiful bride-to-be. It includes a large diamond from Botswana – one of Harry’s favourite places – and two smaller diamonds from his late mother Princess Diana’s collection.

Meghan will be the first American to marry into the royal family since Wallis Simpson, for whom King Edward VIII abdicated the throne in 1936.

Oh, and in case you’ve been living under a rock, Harry and Meghan will get married on Saturday 19 May at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, at 1pm South African time. Don’t miss it!
