Pork sosaties – an absolute winner

Whether it’s for lunch, dinner or a quick game-time snack, these popular crowd-pleasers are delicious!


1kg pork cubes (from leg, shoulder or neck), 2,5cm each

45ml olive oil or good quality cooking oil

1 large onion, grated or finely chopped

2 garlic cloves, chopped

1 thumb-sized piece fresh ginger, chopped

1 red chilli, finely chopped

5ml each mild curry powder, cumin and paprika

25ml smooth apricot jam

120ml grape vinegar or red wine vinegar

150ml olive oil for marinade

1-2 red or green peppers, seeds removed and cut into pieces

2-3 red onions, quartered

salt and pepper

10-14 wooden skewers, soaked in hot water


  • Place the pork cubes in a Corning Ware or Pyrex dish. Heat the olive or cooking oil in a pan and fry the onion, garlic, ginger, chilli and spices until soft.
  • Add the apricot jam, vinegar and olive oil, stir to melt the jam and remove from heat.
  • Add ½ to 1c water to make a marinade. Pour the marinade over the pork cubes and leave in the fridge for at least 4 hours or overnight. Stir now and then.
  • When ready to braai or grill, thread the pork cubes onto the skewers alternating with red peppers and onion quarters.
  • Season with salt and pepper while grilling.

Serving suggestion Sprinkle with chopped fresh herbs before serving
