In July 2020, Nota and Berita started their marriage process when Nota paid lobola for the songstress.
The couple did not shy away from sharing their blissful moments and celebrating their anniversary on social media.
The award-winning Afrosoul singer and guitarist, real name Gugulethu Khumalo, was over the moon when the director at The Orchard, a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment, Nhlamulo Baloyi, sent the cows to the Khumalos.
“This past weekend the Khumalo and the Baloyi families came together. The Khumalos are excited they received their cows. The Baloyis are excited to receive their bride. Family is everything! I am the luckiest girl in the world united for life with the love of my life,” she wrote in a since deleted social media post.
Last year the couple celebrated their wedding anniversary on 26 July 2021, but their union ended after 18 months.
They separated as far back as 13 January 2022, the singer says on social media.
Nota’s "erratic behaviour" is the reason they split, she added.
The podcaster, popularly known as Nota, has been trending for his controversial opinions on social media.
On 1 July 2022, Nota spoke about influencer Mihlali Ndamase, saying he does not find her attractive. "They don’t understand that if Mihlali is for sale, that means she’s an object, which means that you can kill her if you want to. It’s like buying a dog. You can put it down,” he said.
Some social media users dragged Berita, while others expressed their concerns over her safety.
In the early hours of Monday, 4 July, the singer distanced herself from Nota, saying they separated months ago.
The Thandolwethu singer said she had to choose between her marriage and being alive.
"The day I decided to leave my marriage is the day I had to choose between being married and being alive," she tweeted, telling her fans and followers that she is no longer married to the media personality.
"I am no longer married to Nhlamulo 'Nota' Baloyi. I left our marital home on Thursday the 13 of January 2022. As it stands we are currently separated," she wrote.
"I have been quiet because my safely has been a huge concern. This man is extremely irresponsible, reckless and unruly. He simply does not listen to anyone. I do not condone his actions. I cannot even begin to count the numerous times he has erred in his speech."
The singer also apologised to Mihlali, tweeting: "Mntase uxolo. I apologise to you. I do not condone the things said by Nota to you. No woman should ever have to be objectified and ripped apart publicly or privately!
"The bullying and disgrace I have faced publicly and privately is painful (sic). This man’s irrational behaviour is beyond me. I am a very reasonable person. I will be the first to admit. I missed very big red flags."
Berita concluded that Nota needs mental health help.
