In the early part of 2020, the Cultural and Creative Industries Federation of South Africa (CCIFSA) met with Northern Cape Premier Zamani Saul to discuss the grievances of artists living in the province.
Taking place before the national onset of Covid-19 and its subsequent lockdowns, the meeting saw the federation laying bare what it felt was the deliberate sidelining and impoverishment of artists in the Northern Cape.
During a phone call, just before 14:00 on 18 March 2021, the former provincial co-ordinator of CCIFSA, Thabo Motlhabi, told Arts24 how the supposed sidelining could be seen in three instances.
