Penguin Random House has acquired the global rights to publish the first volume of Barack Obama’s presidential memoirs. Set to be released on 17 November 2020, the memoir will be published in 25 languages and be made available in hardcover and digital formats. An abridged audio edition of the book, read by Obama, will also be release in digital and physical formats by Penguin House Audio.

Titled A Promised Land, the memoir tells the story of how a young man searching for his identity became the leader of the free world. Leaving nothing out, the book details Obama’s trajectory from his political education all the way to landmark moments in his first term where he became the first African American to hold America’s highest office.

Along with being a fun and informative read, I hope more than anything that the book inspires young people across the country—and around the globe—to take up the baton, lift up their voices, and play their part in remaking the world for the better.”

Readers can expect to be transported into the Oval office, the White House Situation Room and beyond, reliving topical moments such as assembling his cabinet, passing the Affordable Care Act, and the death of Osama bin Laden from Obama’s perspective. By reflecting on his presidency, Obama takes the reader on a journey to explore the reach and limits of presidential power as well as the effect that being in office can have on one’s family.

Publication dates for the second and concluding volumes of the memoir will be announced at a later stage.  For more information visit www.penguinrandomhouse.com
