Athi-Patra Ruga and Victory of the Word are calling on all emerging and mid-career artists to apply for the very first Bodyland incubator taking place in the idyllic Amathole Village of Hogsback from 24 October to 7 November 2020.
To be eligible applicants must be
- Socially engaged residents of the Eastern Cape
- Fluent speakers of isiXhosa and English
- Be available for the full duration of the residency
The residency will take on eight artists working in performance or visual arts, film, radio, fashion exhibition making and curation. All travel, accommodation and food costs will be covered.
Once chosen, the selected participants will be immersed into a 14-day high-octane group incubator beginning with an overnight excursion and camping on the Amathole heritage routes. Along these routes participants will encounter Ntsikana’s Bell, Nongqawuse’s pond as well as the villages affected by the 19th century “betterment” schemes and the Ciskeir Development Corporation.
Following the excursion, the group will then return to the residency base at the Hunterson Centre in Hogsback and begin a creative programme led by multidisciplinary artist Athi-Patra Ruga.
