I think the media always portrayed black lives as poor, without purpose.

Coming from a township and looking at how stories, of black people in Johannesburg, were being covered: I realised how incomplete they were. 

It was never enough to go into a township, take a few pictures and leave. I wanted to comprehensively document what was happening. I was interested in contributing toward a dignified document of black life.
