The BKhz gallery app offers a humanised take on virtual art buying

In August of 2018, contemporary artist Banele Khoza set up shop in Braamfontein’s Juta Street. He called it BKhz: a hybrid that blends the artist’s open studio with a gallery space for emerging artists and an incubator for cultural practitioners to break bread with each other. 

Since then, BKhz has held more than 16 exhibitions in the space, hosted FNB Art Joburg’s 2019 Gallery Lab incubation, all while trying to facilitate connections in the contemporary art space. 

To celebrate its second birthday, BKhz launched an app on 9 August 2020. After being conceptualised toward the end of 2019, the app was developed in collaboration with Oresol Tech, a South African company that specialises in helping clients increase revenue and engagement through technological solutions.

Speaking to Arts24 about the decision to place BKhz on another platform, Khoza says the app was created to match their following’s preferred method of communication.
