The first South African Pride was held on 13 October 1990 and the attending crowd was addressed by Bev Ditsie, Simon Nkoli, Judge Edward Cameron and others. While the rest of the world celebrates Pride in June, in commemoration of the Stonewall riots, October occupies a place of importance in South Africa, remembering when 800 people attended the countries first Pride March, organised by GLOW (Gay and Lesbian Organisation of the Witwatersrand). To celebrate Pride month, the Cheeky Natives looks at a list of mostly local literature to get into.
