Reni Santoni has died. He was 81 years old.

TV writer and producer, musician and friend of the actor, Tracy Newman, told The Hollywood Reporter on Monday he died in hospice care on Saturday after battling health problems, including cancer, for many years.

She also took to Facebook, writing: "Those of you who knew him know how funny he was, what a terrific actor, improviser, performer, etc. So brilliant. I loved him very much and will miss him terribly. Another great one is gone."

Reni is survived by his wife, stage director, Lisa James, and son, Nick, reports Variety.

The actor had over 100 movie titles to his name, reports Entertainment Weekly, but was widely known for his roles in Enter Laughing and Dirty Harry.

He famously delivered the line: "No wonder they call him "Dirty Harry", [he] always gets the shit end of the stick."

He also went on to play Poppie, an unhygienic pizza chef, in Seinfeld.
