Sebastián Athie has died. He was 24 years old.

The Disney star's death was confirmed by Disney Channel Latin America on social media. "Rest in peace, Sebas. Your art and your smile stay forever," they wrote.

"We regret the departure of Sebastián Athié and we will always remember him for his talent, companionship, professionalism and above all enormous heart. We accompany his family, friends and fans in his farewell."

His team Cristina Chaparro Management later reposted the same message, reports People.

The reason for Sebastián's death is not yet known but is being investigated, reports US Weekly.

The actor was best known for playing soccer player Lorenzo Guevara in O11CE (Once). The show ran on Disney Channel Latin America from 2017 to 2019. He also appeared in the Mexican drama series La Rosa de Guadalupe.

Fans paid tribute to the star after news of his death first broke, while his costars shared emotional messages.

Paulina Vetrano, who starred alongside Sebastián as Zoe on O11CE wrote on Instagram: "What helplessness and sadness I feel, how it hurts. It's hard for me to process it, I can't say goodbye friend, apparently this world was not prepared for people as special as you.

"You are the brother I chose! Rest in peace friend, here you will continue to illuminate with your talent and your art forever!"
