Ellen DeGeneres took the stage on Sunday to accept the award for best talk show at the 2020 People's Choice Awards.
During her acceptance speech, she thanked her "amazing staff" and said she was accepting the award on their behalf – this after months of controversy on the show, with employees making claims of a toxic workplace environment.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you, from deep down in my heart, I thank you. I am not only accepting this award for myself, I'm accepting it on behalf of my amazing crew, my amazing staff, who make this show possible," Ellen said during her speech. "They show up every single day, they give a 100 per cent of themselves, 100 per cent of the time.
"That's 250 people times 170 shows a year times 18 years, and if you carry the two and divide it by 11, my point is I love them all."
She added: "And I thank them for what they do every single day to help that show be the best that we try to make it every single day."
Following an explosive Buzzfeed article with employees opening up about their experiences on the show, which included fear, intimidation and racial encounters with sexual misconduct allegations to follow, WarnerMedia launched an investigation at The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
The investigation revealed there was no evidence of 'systematic' racism on the show, however, three top producers – executive producers Ed Glavin and Kevin Leman, and co-executive producer Jonathan Norman – were fired from the show following the accusations.
