  • August Alsina revealed he and Jada Pinkett Smith were in a relationship a few years back - and Will Smith gave the couple "his blessings".
  • Though Jada said the claims were "not true" at the time, she opened up in a brand new Red Table Talk recently saying she and Will - who was at the other end of the table - were going through a difficult time and were actually separated.
  • She said what started as a friendship with August soon became "a different kind of entanglement".

Jada Pinkett Smith promised fans she'd address claims by August Alsina that the two engaged in a relationship. So on Friday, in a brand new Red Table Talk, the 48-year-old sat down with Will Smith to address the headlines.

In an episode titled Jada Brings Herself to the Table, the star said about four and a half years ago wanting to help August's physical and mental state she started a friendship with him – they became "really, really good friends" – then it slowly became "a different kind of entanglement".

In case you missed it, the singer sat down with Angela Yee not too long ago to speak about everything from his album to his documentary, reports Drum. During the interview he also got candid about his relationship with the Red Table Talk host, saying: "I actually sat down with Will and had a conversation due to the transformation from their marriage to their life partnership that they've spoken on several times. He gave me his blessings."

At the time, Jada reportedly denied the claims calling it "absolutely not true". Now, the mother of two is explaining what exactly transpired between her and August.

"You and I were going through a very difficult time," Jada said to Will during the episode. "We broke up."

"We decided that we were going to separate for a period of time... You go figure out how to make yourself happy, and I'll go figure out how to make myself happy. I really felt like we could be over," Will said before Jada added that she then started a relationship with August.

"It was a relationship. I was in a lot of pain and I was very broken. In the process of that relationship, I definitely realised you can't find happiness outside of yourself. Luckily enough, you and I were also going through a process of healing in a much different manner. We did everything we could to get away from each other, only to realise that wasn't possible."

Touching on what August said about Will giving his "permission" for the two to have the relationship, Jada said: "The only person that can give permission in that particular circumstance is myself." She added that he probably wanted to make it clear Jada and Will had "separated amicably" and he wasn't a homewrecker.

Jada and Will said though they were struggling, they found their way back to each other – and their marriage is stronger than ever now. "We ride together, we die together. Bad marriage for life," they joked.
