Keke Palmer just shared an unfiltered photo of herself, revealing her battle with acne as a result of polycystic ovary syndrome.

PCOS is a hormonal disorder that sees the ovaries develop numerous small collections of fluid (follicles) and fail to regularly release eggs. Symptoms include acne, weight problems and irregular periods.

With a post on Instagram, the actress said she's not afraid to show herself to the world, "and you shouldn't be either".

She said polycystic ovary syndrome "has been attacking me from the inside out my entire life and I had no idea". "My acne has been so bad that people in my field offered to pay for me to get it fixed."

The 27-year-old said she'd tried everything and nothing worked – the doctors didn't help either. But after doing the research herself and looking into her family history, she managed to find some answers.

She added: "The least harmful thing PCOS can bring is acne. To all the people struggling with this please know you're not alone and that you are still so fucking fine! MY ACNE AINT NEVER STOPPED ME. But we don't have [to] accept this. Now I can really help KEKE! And I love her so it's ON."
