  • Kelly Clarkson's been awarded physical custody of her kids with Brandon Blackstock as the couple's divorce proceedings continue.
  • Court documents state that "the level of conflict between the parents has increased".
  • Brandon has also since requested both spousal and child support from the singer of up to $436 000 (R6.7 million) a month.

Kelly Clarkson recently alluded to the reason for her split from Brandon Blackstock.

The singer and talk show host spoke of "being the best version" of herself – and making sure she's on the same path as those who want the same for themselves.

She announced her split from the music manager back in June – and now it seems the legal proceedings have begun, with the 38-year-old being granted physical custody of the couple's two children, River Rose and Remington Alexander, while they are in Los Angeles.

According to People, a Los Angeles judge made the call, with a court document reading: "The Court finds that under the circumstances present in this case, the interest in providing stability and continuity for the minor children weighs in favour of Petitioner having primary custody.

The document also says that "the level of conflict between the parents has increased". "The parties have a difficult time co-parenting due to issues of trust between them."

Brandon, who lives in Montana, will be allowed visits in Los Angeles – the singer is based in Los Angeles due to her work as host of NBC's The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Following the court's ruling, Brandon is looking for both spousal and child support from the singer.

A source close to the situation tells the publication: "Brandon's been equally unreasonable in his requests for child and spousal support, as well as attorney fees.

"Kelly's offered to pay for all the kids' expenses, but Brandon seems to think he is entitled to and needs $301K in spousal support and $135K in child support per month."

According to the source, "he's already asked for $2 million for attorney fees when he's the one driving up the cost of the divorce with seven attorneys just representing him alone".

Another source says, despite the messy divorce proceedings, Kelly is "pleased" by the court's most recent ruling.

"Her first priority in all of this is to take care of the kids and all the hearts that are involved in this divorce," they explain.
