Cape Town – Lena Dunham and Jack Antonoff have reportedly ended their relationship.

E! News exclusively confirmed the Girls actress and Bleachers frontman went their separate ways in December but are still on good terms.

"Jack and Lena were growing apart and it just made sense for them to end their relationship where it was," an insider told E! News.

The couple started dating in 2012 after being set up on a blind date.

"I told Lena everything about my whole life, because when you really like someone, you want them to know everything about you," Jack told New York magazine in 2014 about their first date.

Marriage has proved to be a topic of discussion in the couple’s relationship. In 2015 Lena told Grazia magazine that she and Jack would only tie the knot once gay marriage was legalised in the US.

She said: "It's really important for us to wait, because we both have a lot of gay friends and the idea of skipping ahead of them doesn't feel good to us.

"I don't want to do something my gay sister, Grace, can't do in a number of states."

In November, Lena tweeted about how she mistakenly thought Jack was planning to propose to her, only to find out that she was actually "talking shit" about her.

Reps for both Lena and Jack confirmed the couples’ separation.
