Sean Connery's cause of death has been revealed, one month after his passing.

The actor, best known for his role as James Bond in the franchise, died at the age of 90. The star died in his sleep after he'd "been unwell" for some time.

Now, according to his death certificate obtained by TMZ, it has been revealed the actor died from atrial fibrillation — an irregular, often rapid heart rate, that can cause poor blood flow — old age and pneumonia.

The documents state the actor died on 31 October at 01:30 at his home in the Bahamas.

Following his death, his wife, Micheline Roquebrune, also said the actor had been battling with dementia.

"I was with him all the time and he just slipped away," the 91-year-old said. "He had dementia and it took its toll on him. He got his final wish to slip away without any fuss.

"It was no life for him. He was not able to express himself latterly."
