Prince William and Kate Middleton kicked off their official visit to Ireland this week.

The visit, which is set to take place from Tuesday, 3 March, to Thursday, 5 March, will see the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in Dublin, Country Meath, County Kildare and Galway, to highlight and reinforce links between the UK and Ireland and see the amazing work being done by the Irish.

On their first day, William and Kate met with President Michael D. Higgins and his wife, Sabina Coyne.

President Higgins and his love for his doggos are well known – he never goes anywhere without them, according to pet website, Wamiz. So of course, Bród was there too, when he met William and Kate.

And when the president and Mrs Higgins laid a wreath at the Garden of Remembrance with the duke and duchess, so too did Bród.

Hello Ireland! ???????? Dia Daoibh, daoine na hÉireann! Thank you President and Mrs Higgins (and Bród the dog ??) for the warm welcome for The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to the country, which will see them spend time in Dublin, County Meath, County Kildare and Galway – and highlight the many strong links shared between the UK and Ireland. Following tea with President and Mrs Higgins, The Duke and Duchess laid a wreath at the Garden of Remembrance – a place of reflection dedicated to those who gave their lives for Irish independence, before calling on Taoiseach Leo Varadkar. The coming days will see The Duke and Duchess meet a broad range of people, including children and young people, those working in the creative arts, business and charity sectors – and are looking forward to building a lasting friendship with the Irish people. #RoyalVisitIreland

According to People, Sioda – the president's other dog – had to cancel her attendance at the royal engagement due to a paw injury.

Sioda famously met Harry and Meghan though, back in 2018.

In 2019, the president told Irish Times' Miriam Lord, his dogs are more than just "ice-breakers" at official events.

"The dogs are not merely ice-breakers, they're also a great source of wisdom," he said.

"They must be protected from the stresses of the Anthropocene."
