Prince Charles is opening up about his sustainable style.

The Prince of Wales, though rarely seen as a style icon per se, spoke to editor-in-chief of British Vogue, Edward Enninful – you'll remember he worked closely with Meghan Markle last year too – about his fashion choices.

His mantra is: 'Buy once, buy well.'

"Well, I'm one of those people who hate throwing anything away," he says. "Hence, I'd rather have them maintained, even patched if necessary, than to abandon them."

The prince goes on to talk about The Modern Artisan, a training programme co-founded by The Prince's Foundation, whose students are launching a fashion collection based around sustainability – something he has long championed in every aspect of his work – before he's complimented by Edward on his admirable style.

"I thought I was like a stopped clock – I'm right twice every 24 hours," the Prince jokes. "But no, I mean, I'm very glad you think it has style."

On his fashion choices, he says: "I mind about detail and colour and things like that – and colour combinations.

"I'm lucky because I can find marvellous people who are brilliant makers of the things that I appreciate, and because of that, I try to keep them going for longer."
