  • Drew Barrymore plays dual roles in her new comedy, The Stand-In.
  • To test out her transformation for her role the actor went undercover in New York.
  • The movie releases on digital services in the US in December.

For her new movie Drew Barrymore stars alongside... Drew Barrymore.

In the upcoming comedy The Stand-In the 45-year-old plays dual roles as Candy Black, a burnout actress and Paula, Candy's stand-in who takes over her identity.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly director Jamie Babbit revealed that the Charlies Angels actor went undercover in New York last year to test whether passersby on the streets of Manhattan would recognise her made up as Paula.

According to Jamie, Drew spent ours in the make-up chair being fitted with a prosthetic nose, different teeth and different hair.

"We had a lot of fun having her make-up artist put the fake nose on her and the teeth and going out into Times Square. We actually went to Central Casting, and Drew auditioned in an open call for a random project," said Jamie.

And while Drew wasn't recognised her co-star Michael Zegen was. A fan asked for his photo and handed over the camera to Drew to take the picture.

"We realised that everyone who was walking by us in New York had no idea it was Drew Barrymore, so we knew [the make-up] was working."
