Cape Town – Jennifer Hudson commands respect in the first teaser trailer for the Aretha Franklin biopic.

In the 44 second teaser, the Academy Award winner glitters in a gold dress as she belts out the Queen of Soul's hit, Respect.

The 38-year-old shared the first look on her Instagram account and captioned it: "Much R.E.S.P.E.C.T to the queen of soul. @respectmovie. Your first look."

In an interview with Sunday Today, Jennifer spoke about stepping into the shoes of Aretha Franklin.

Speaking about the role, she said she is taking it one day at a time.

"All I want to do is pay tribute to her and meet her requests," said Jennifer.

The Dreamgirls actress went on to say that they were in talks about her playing Aretha before she died in 2018 and that she hopes to make her proud and do her justice.

Filming for the movie directed by South African Liesl Tommy kicked off in Georgia in September.

It will follow the rise of Aretha's career from a child singing in her father's church's choir to her international superstardom and is the remarkable true story of the music icon's journey to find her voice.
