Cape Town – Sam Smith released a new single and video on Friday, titled How Do You Sleep?

In the video for the song, Sam dances away from the heartbreak reflected in the lyrics.

The singer has had a tough few months from breaking up with his boyfriend, Brandon Flynn, to stopping his concert in Cape Town after less than an hour.

The lyrics of the song are: "Baby, how do you sleep when you lie to me?/All that shame and all that danger/I'm hoping that my love will keep you up tonight/Baby, how do you sleep when you lie to me?/All that fear and all that pressure/I'm hoping that my love will keep you up tonight".

About the new single – in the caption underneath a post on Instagram – Sam said: "My heart is beating so fast. I am so proud of this one. Thank you to all the beautiful humans around me who have helped me really come out my shell over the past year. To Savan, Max and Ilya, thank you for the opportunity to work with you all, it was honestly an honour. And to Grant, Parris, Charlie and everyone who worked on the video... WE DID THAT. I hope you all enjoy this and please learn the moves so we can dance together one day soon."

While on his local tour he also reflected on how to deal with anxiety, saying: "The last week, or so I've been doing these incredible shows, and from my pics, I look super happy and calm and collected, and I am happy, and sometimes I am calm. But the last few weeks my anxiety has been SO FUCKING INTENSE!! I can't even begin to explain…(sic)".
