Years before Carel Nel would get the role of Abraham Lincoln, his mother noticed his resemblance to the 16th president of the United States. Her words rang in his head when he auditioned for the character for the documentary series, Grant.

The three-part miniseries, directed by Malcolm Venville and executive produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, chronicles the life of Ulysses S Grant, the 18th president of the United States.

Grant overcame many obstacles in his life to rise to the highest ranks of power and save the American nation - more than once. It was the strong relationship between Grant and Lincoln that saved the Union.
