Resident Evil live-action series is in the works at Netflix. The streaming service has ordered eight-episode for the upcoming show, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The series will be written and directed by Supernatural co-showrunner Andrew Dabb and produced by Constantin Film.

According to the publication, the series will tell a new story across two timelines. The first timeline will follow 14-year-old sisters Jade and Bille Wesker who move to New Raccoon City, a manufactured, corporate town. They soon realise that the town is more than what it seems and that their father could be hiding dark secrets.

In the second timeline, which is a decade into the future, there are less than 15 million people left on Earth and more than 6 billion monsters. Jade, now 30, has to survive this new world, while secrets from her past haunt her.

Andrew said in a statement that Resident Evil is his favourite game of all time, reports Deadline.

"I'm incredibly excited to tell a new chapter in this amazing story and bring the first-ever Resident Evil series to Netflix members around the world. For every type of Resident Evil fan, including those joining us for the first time, the series will be complete with a lot of old friends, and some things (bloodthirsty, insane things) people have never seen before."

The Resident Evil film franchise consists of six movies starring Milla Jovovich, as a character created for the movies.
