There's nothing quite like that heart-warming moment when an unsuspecting and completely deserving person experiences the opportunity of a lifetime. Now add two property experts, a host of generous Hollywood stars and some jaw-dropping home improvements, and you've got great television. Don't forget to have the tissues at hand because you'll need it!
Celebrity IOU follows Property Brothers Jonathan and Drew Scott as they join forces with Hollywood A-listers wanting to express their gratitude to friends and colleagues who've made an impact on their lives. The popular show has already been renewed for a second season and the first season features big names like Oscar winner Brad Pitt, Emmy winning actress Melissa McCarthy, the Triple Crown of Acting (Oscar, Emmy and Tony Awards) recipient Viola Davis, Grammy-winning musician Michael Bublé and Australian actress Rebel Wilson. We are totally freaking out!
About the celebrities, Jonathan said: "It's amazing to see someone who is extremely successful be grounded enough to always remember the people who helped them get there." Preach! "Being a part of this show really hits home for us," added Drew. "This is what we love to do, transforming people's lives through their homes."
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
Throughout the season, Drew and Jonathan travel across the US where they sit down with each celebrity to get an authentic and personal look into their lives, as well as provide the brothers with the design plan to create a beautiful customised space for the person they chose.
While Rome wasn't built in a day, Drew and Jonathan make sure the celebrities' dream spaces become a reality and boy do they deliver … even on a strict deadline. "Though there are many similarities to our other shows, like Property Bros: Forever Home, I think the timeline was the most challenging part. With Brad Pitt's episode, we had to pull everything off in under three weeks—essentially creating a completely self-contained detached-dwelling unit with all of the amenities in that time frame—in Los Angeles, no less. We may be certifiable."
WHAT ARE THE PROJECTS?
You could probably catch some tips for your own home renovations with these. A detached garage is transformed into a fully functional and gorgeous guest retreat; a backyard is turned into every entertainer's dream, and a 70s-style condo goes from outdated to modern, cosy and family-friendly, perfect for family gatherings. On how the celebrities interacted during renovations, Jonathan said: "Everyone was extremely hands-on, because they were doing this for people they love!" And Drew added: "People are going to be shocked by how much Rebel Wilson was doing. She was basically auditioning for the show by the time we were done."
THE PILOT EPISODE FEATURES BRAD PITT
We know him as Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Anniston's ex-husband and from a range of movies including Se7en, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood – he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role – and other classics like Fight Club and Troy, but probably Brad's biggest role is being a caring human being with a big heart and being completely down to earth – as confirmed by the Scott brothers.
And just exactly how did this heartthrob get the pilot spot on this brand-new reality series? Well, Brad asked Jonathan and Drew to help him do something special for his long-time make-up artist and friend Jean Ann Black – Brad and Jean have been friends for a whopping 30 years.
In the end, Brad was in awe of how well the Scott brothers delivered on the complete renovation of Jean's garage and added that: "This will mean so much to her. I couldn't have done this well and certainly not in this amount of time."
