
The Netflix hit show Squid Game has sparked an increase in sales for the white slip-on sneaker worn in the show.
The show, which premiered on the streaming service in September, is on track to become the platform's biggest show yet.
In the nine-episode survival drama, hundreds of cash-strapped people compete in a series of children's games to win the final reward of 45.6 billion won (R572 million).
The participants, wear white slip-on Vans and green tracksuits while the Squid Game workers wear a red jumpsuit.
According to data from Sole Supplier, sales for the shoes has gone up to 7800 %. According to Lyst, a company that tracks fashion data trends, searches for the shoes increased to 145% people are also looking for retro-inspired tracksuits, red jumpsuits, and a numbered white t-shirt.
Not only has the fashion sparked interest, sales for the toffee candy featured in an episode has also increased.
An Yong-hui, who made the sweets for the show, has had fans queue outside his stall for the sweet treat, reports Reuters.
According to the publication he now sells more than 500 dalgonas a day, from less than 200 before the show's premiere.
