  • Clueless actress Brittany Murphy died on 20 December 2009; she was 32 years old.
  • In 2010 a coroner said her primary cause of death was pneumonia complicated by an iron deficiency, anaemia and multiple drug intoxication.
  • Her husband Simon Monjack was found dead in their home in Hollywood five months after her death.

Ten years after the death of Brittany Murphy, a new documentary revisits the mysterious details surrounding the incident.

Although her death was ruled as accidental by a coroner in 2010, there is still some speculation around it.

Shortly after Brittany died, her husband, filmmaker Simon Monjack, was also found dead. According to CNN, the cause of his death was severe anaemia and acute pneumonia. This intensified the mystery around their sudden deaths, which many believed involved foul play.

On Tuesday, an Investigation Discovery documentary, Brittany Murphy: An ID Mystery, aired in the US renewing interest in the story.

"Brittany Murphy is a rising star who had it all, beauty, fame, and success ... but she also had secrets. When she is found dead in her Los Angeles home at just 32 years old, Hollywood and legions of fans are left in disbelief. While her autopsy reveals that she died of natural causes, many believe foul play is involved," reads a press release from Investigation Discovery.

As details of her life and death emerged, Simon, and Brittany's mother Sharon Murphy, went on a media spree. He particularly raised eyebrows when he allowed Radar Online an exclusive video tour of their home in March 2010.

Mere months after her death Simon died "under strikingly similarly circumstances – in the same bed he and Brittany once shared, only this time, allegedly with Brittany's mother sleeping beside him."

"In an exclusive final interview, the late Angelo Bertolotti, Brittany's father, casts doubt on the conclusion that she died of natural causes and reveals bizarre allegations against other family members."

The special features interviews, in-depth forensic details and alternative explanations about the cause of death.
