  • Ruby Rose has quit Batwoman on The CW network after one season.
  • The 34-year-old made history as the first openly gay superhero to headline a television series.
  • In an initial statement Ruby said: "I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season."

A week after news broke that Ruby Rose would not be returning as Batwoman in the CW series the actress has broken her silence on her exit.

The 34-year-old released a statement when news of her departing the show was announced.

Warner Brothers, in turn, thanked her for her contributions on the show saying: "Warner Bros. Television, The CW and Berlanti Productions thank Ruby for her contributions to the success of our first season and wish her all the best," reports E! News.

They further assured fans and the LGBTQ community that they would cast another actress and member of the community in the following months.

On Wednesday the actress posted a video on Instagram alongside a lengthy post in which she thanked everyone who supported her and said that the decision to leave the show was not an easy one to make.

"It wasn't an easy decision, but those who know, know. I didn't want to not acknowledge everyone involved and how big this was for TV and for our community. I have stayed silent because that's my choice for now but know I adore you all. I'm sure next season will be amazing also."

She ended the post: "Hangs up cowl and cape."

When news of the Orange Is the New Black actress' casting was first announced she faced a lot of backlash which forced her to delete her Twitter account.

In 2019 Ruby shared that she sustained severe injuries on the set of the show and underwent emergency surgery after an injury left her facing possible paralysis.

Deadline reports that both Ruby and the team on the show were not happy, it was not a good fit and that they decided to part ways.
