Legendary identical twin sisters, Darcey and Stacey Silva, embark on a new chapter together. The sisters expand their business, follow their hears and reconnect with family.

90 Day Fiancé's Darcey Silva and her sister Stacey are back on TLC with a spin-off series of their very own.

Darcey & Stacey doesn't just follow the sisters' search for love but explores their childhood and close family relationships, showing a heartwarming side that we rarely get to see.

But not to worry, for viewers who love the cringe-comedy and chaotic relationships associated with 90 Day Fiancé, Darcey & Stacey has its share of hot foreign romances and dysfunctional family dynamics.

For those new to the franchise, Darcey appeared on several seasons of 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days, which looked at her highly toxic relationship with Dutch model Jesse Meester, and (sad to say, one-sided) romance with London-based businessman Tom Brooks.

Stacey also "guest-starred" on the show but in a much smaller role, often only to support Darcey during a relationship crisis. But the new spin-off series also puts the spotlight on Stacey's relationship with long-term boyfriend, Albanian-native Florian Sukaj.

Of course, her relationship with Florian comes with hiccups, including a very saucy cheating scandal.

Darcey & Stacey is filmed, for the most part, in Middletown, Connecticut, in the home the twins' father bought for them, and the series wastes no time diving headfirst into the twin drama.

In Episode 1, Everything Is About To Change, we witness a secret meeting between Stacey and Darcey's ex-boyfriend Tom, and Florian's visit to America is cast under a dark cloud when compromising photos of him and another woman surface online.

There is apparent tension between Darcey and Stacey, as Stacey prepares to leave for the airport to welcome Florian to America. Darcey is still wary of Florian following the photo debacle (rightfully so), although one can't help but also sense some jealousy towards Stacey. Perhaps because Darcey finds herself without a serious partner as her sister prepares to walk down the aisle?

More notably, we also get our first glimpse into the twins' lives throughout their younger years, and what they share is in stark contrast to the glamorous twins we see today.

The twins say that throughout high school, they "never really fit in" and growing up, they mostly "hung out with each other."

"They called us the trolls," Darcey says to the camera, revealing more about their teenage years. We also see photos of the twins as teenagers. With short brown curls, the twins are almost unrecognisable.

Although the first two episodes focus mostly on setting up the drama and key players for the season, Episode 3, Meltdown In Middletown, gives an honest look into Darcey's history with men, and overall emotional well-being when she visits a therapist.

During the eye-opening visit, Darcey is asked about her relationships with the men in her life - not only romantic partners but also her father and brother, who died of cancer in 1998.

The very real moment reveals a genuine side to Darcey, which I wasn't expecting, and offers viewers an opportunity to get to know the reality TV star on a deeper level.

The shows also explore the twins' family dynamics, and we meet their father, Mike, mother, Nancey, as well as Darcey's daughters, Aniko and Aspen. Stacey's children haven't made their debut on the show yet and, based on reports, are unlike to appear as the season goes on.

Their parents divorced when they were 12, but have remained friends, with Mike having remarried "a couple of times". Mike plays a significant role in the series and is particularly involved in the twins' romantic lives. Mike has been said to be the "breakout" star of the season, and I tend to agree.

He also offers more insight into his daughters' personalities, and suggests possible competition between the sisters.

As for as Darcey's romantic interest on the show, Darcey finds herself ready to love again and moves on from Tom with Bulgarian Georgi Rusev.

In the coming episodes, we will see Darcey reunite with her Bulgarian lover and Stacey prepare to say "I do," as well as follow the family as they navigate the Covid-19 pandemic.

I'm sure there are going to be viewers who will, once more, have something nasty to say about the twins' romantic appetite for younger and foreign men, parenting choices or cosmetic procedures - but most people know by now that reality TV, especially the really trashy kind, is a total exaggeration of reality.

The twins are unapologetic about their quirks, often play up what's been said about them and have garnered a dedicated fan base - which includes superfans Chrissy Teigen and John Legend.

And, they've got a fan in me too.

Darcey & Stacey airs Thursdays at 21:00 on TLC (DStv 135)
