Miss International Beauty Pageant 2020 which was scheduled to take place later this year has been cancelled.

The beauty pageant was cancelled "taking into consideration the health and safety issues, as well as the on-going global impact caused by the Covid-19 pandemic" - according to a statement.

Miss International Beauty Pageant 2021, the 60th anniversary, will be held in October 2021. Sireethorn Leearamwat of Thailand will crown her successor at the end of the event.

This is the second time the pageant has been cancelled since its inception in 1960.

Despite coronavirus concerns, many beauty pageants including Miss South Africa and Mrs South Africa have adopted a virtual judging process.
