Although Covid-19 has affected Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi's travel plans for the year, we'll be looking back at one of her most memorable trips from the past: The first time she returned to her hometown, after being crowned Miss South Africa

The public relations graduate, who before moving to New York for the duration of her Miss Universe reign lived in Cape Town, is originally from Sidwadweni, Tsolo in the Eastern Cape. 

On 18 August 2019,  Zozibini visited her hometown for the first time after being crowned Miss South Africa.

A proud moment for the people of Tsolo, the streets were lined with supporters who came to congratulate her on the major accomplishment. 

The Miss South Africa oganisation described the visit as "nothing short of incredible" - and rewatching the footage, we couldn't agree more! 

"I have never in my life imagined coming home would be like this. It is indeed true that it takes a village to raise a child. Thank you kubantu bakuTsolo nase Mthatha for coming to see me at the airport. I'm forever greatful [sic]," Zozibini captioned a clip posted to Instagram, after arriving in Tsolo. 

"Coming home to the people who raised me, to the people who invested in me and my dreams has been the biggest honour and privilege of my life. Know that no matter where I go that I will carry the spirit of my people in my heart," she captioned another video.
