Miss South Africa 2002, Cindy Nell posted a photo on Instagram from her childhood beauty pageant days.

"Long long ago .... there was a little girl with BIG dreams,[sic]" she captioned a photo of her younger self, wearing a pageant sash and crown.

Speaking to Channel24 about that day, Cindy says: "I was 13 years old and I heard about this competition at the Spur called Miss Valentine. I never did modeling before then but I heard there was a cash prize and I wanted to get a new outfit. There was also a bunch of Spur vouchers up for grabs, and I wanted to treat my family. So my mom and I went to Edgars and we got matching outfits. A white knee length skirt and little white corset.

"I was one of the youngest girls to enter and there wasn't even a ramp, we walked between the seats of the Spur. I won, and one of my prizes was a modelling academy course and I started attending the modelling classes once a week and basically my entire career took off from there."

"And also we had a very nice dinner at the Spur that night," she laughs.

The former Miss South Africa turned TV presenter is still very much involved in the modeling industry, having published a how-to guide for aspiring models.

Today, she is director and shareholder of Cosmetix, owner of Ace Models - the largest modeling academy in South Africa and founder of the Women4Women Foundation.

"Tell your daughters - 'you can do anything.' [sic]" she added in the post.

One follower was particularly moved by the post saying in the comments section that her young daughter, who also participates in pageants, was very disappointed when she failed to place in a recent competition.

"I'm going to show her the photo for inspiration," said the grateful fan.
